Disco's first web discovery feature is GenTabs
GenTabs turn the tabs you have open into custom, interactive apps.
GenTabs are generated based on your specific tabs and your specific goal, which means there is no end to what you can make.
Here are a few of our favorites so far:
Install Google Disco Chrome Extension
Get started with Disco in just a few simple steps
Download the Extension
Download the Google Disco Chrome extension ZIP file to your computer.
Download disco.zipThe file will be saved to your Downloads folder (or your browser's default download location).
Extract the ZIP File
Unzip the downloaded file to extract the extension folder:
Windows:
- Navigate to your Downloads folder
- Right-click on
disco.zip - Select "Extract All..." or "Extract to disco\"
- Choose a location (or use the default) and click "Extract"
- You should now have a
discofolder with all extension files
macOS:
- Navigate to your Downloads folder
- Double-click on
disco.zip - The file will automatically extract to a
discofolder - You should now see a
discofolder with all extension files
Linux:
- Open Terminal
- Navigate to Downloads:
cd ~/Downloads - Extract:
unzip disco.zip - You should now have a
discofolder with all extension files
manifest.json and other extension files. Do not rename or move files within the folder.
Open Chrome Extensions Page
Navigate to Chrome's extensions management page:
chrome://extensions/
Or go to Menu (⋮) → Extensions → Manage extensions
Enable Developer Mode
This is required to load unpacked extensions manually:
- Look for the "Developer mode" toggle in the top-right corner
- Toggle it ON (it should turn blue/active)
- You'll now see three new buttons: "Load unpacked", "Pack extension", and "Update"

Load the Extension Manually
Now you'll load the unzipped extension folder:
- Click the "Load unpacked" button (appears after enabling Developer mode)
- Navigate to the location where you extracted the
disco.zipfile - Select the
discofolder (the one containingmanifest.json) - Click "Select Folder" (Windows) or "Open" (Mac)
disco folder itself (which contains manifest.json), not a parent folder or individual files.

Verify Installation
After loading, you should see:
- ✓ "Disco Browser" or "Google Disco" appears in your extensions list
- ✓ The Disco icon appears in your Chrome toolbar
- ✓ No error messages in the extensions page
If you see errors, check the "Errors" button on the extension card for details. Common issues include missing icon files or invalid manifest.json.
Launch Disco
Click the Disco icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the full-screen Disco interface!

Troubleshooting
Check that manifest.json is valid and all files are present
Verify icon files exist in the icons/ folder (icon16.png, icon48.png, icon128.png)
Reload the extension from chrome://extensions/ and check for errors
Check the browser console (F12) for detailed error messages
